A Letter from our Chief Executive Officer

“There are 546,773 people of working age with disabilities in Arizona, of which more than 235,112 do not have jobs.” (2000 Census)

ACHIEVE Human Services, Inc. is a community rehabilitation program that serves community members with the most significant disabilities. Our mission is to empower the individuals that we serve to live their lives to their greatest potential. We lead in the development and delivery of innovative programs designed to strengthen individuals and build stronger communities. ACHIEVE recognizes the ability within a disability.

ACHIEVE believes that every individual with a disability deserves the same opportunities to become contributing members of the communities where they live. These opportunities are created through an array of programs and services that works with individuals in build self esteem that results in positive outcomes through vocational rehabilitation services that focus on employment services, career exploration, independent skill development, integrated social skills and low income housing availability, and case management.

Almost 90% of ACHIEVE’s direct labor force is comprised of individuals with significant disabilities. Many of these individuals are not employed on one of our four federal government contracts being performed under the AbilityOne program. The AbilityOne program is the single largest employer in the United States of people who are blind or have significant disabilities. Within the State of Arizona there are 518 individuals employed on these contracts; ACHIEVE employs 60 of those individuals. We were one of the first agencies within the United States to contract with the federal government under this program.

A variety of employment services are offered through state contracts with the Arizona Department of Economic Service; Division of Development Disabilities and Rehabilitation Services Administration and California Department of Rehabilitation. These services are provided in Yuma, La Paz and Mohave Counties in Arizona and Imperial County, California. It is through these contracts that local businesses collaborate with ACHIEVE to provide on-the-job training for our vocational rehabilitation clients. It is at our Center-based Employment facility where secured document destruction and bulk mailing services are provided to local businesses and private citizens.

Affordable housing opportunities are provided through four Housing and Urban Development grants for the severely mentally ill community members. Matched funding is provided through Arizona Department of Behavioral Health Services through a contract with Cenpatico.

ACHIEVE is proud to be contributing to the advancement and growth of the people we serve by reducing their dependency on social services and government subsidization. We welcome local Yuma community businesses and the private sector to consider working with us in creating those employment opportunities that will strengthen our community and contribute to the welfare of individuals with disabilities.

You can be assured that by contracting with ACHIEVE for your custodial, grounds maintenance, bulk mailing and/or secured document destruction or by partnering with us to provide on-the-job training at your business that you have made a significant difference in the lives of individuals with a disability.
